In search of Arcadia.

Dearest Lovelies, hope you are all well and staying safe and sane in Crochetland?

I'm typing this from my little studio as icy rain lashes the garden, windows rattle and gusty gale-force wind apparently wants to pry the roof off the cottage! I've been awake since midnight unable to settle down with car alarms being set off and strange thumps and bangings going on outside. I'm dreading going out into my garden later! The kitties and I have been cowering under the warm bedclothes while Mr HooksnTales took to the spare bedroom room with two very nervous doggies ( our bed is not big enough for the six of us! ). You know I bow to the mighty Stormbringer. I'm a Pluviophile through and through. But this is unnerving! I think we're all a little unnerved these days, right? Dramatic weather or not.

THANKFULLY, in all sincerity, so very thankful that we who craft have a creative outlet to help us process and traverse these very troubled times. We can make all. the. things while the sun doesn't figuratively shine. We can create silver linings around dark clouds with actual silver thread. We can construct where there is destruction and I'm reminded once again how creative souls continue to create, in myriad ways, through the worst of times. We create our own Arcadian idyl if we can. Oh, look at me going all mushy on you all! But you get my drift?

It's still dark outside but I can imagine for now that all the flowering plants and bushes have been stripped of their winter blooms. The garden will look as if a stormy wedding party whirled by shredding every blossom and leaf for confetti. There is some terrible beauty in that too. Anyhoooooooo...before I make you all cry into your chilled Chardonnay or steaming hot chocolate ( depending on which hemisphere you call home ) let me take a jump to the left and announce ARCADIAAAAA ( drum roll ). So, it seems Helen Shrimpton also released an "Arcadia " pattern but honestly, I live under a rock and had no idea until Noelene told me after the fact! I'm going to stick with the name because now more than ever I want to imagine that sometime in our near future we can enjoy a more arcadian reality. Let's raise our glasses to that!

 But hang on...there's more!😸

I think it's time for another GIVEAWAY from another Designer! I fell head over heels for the adorable Jasmine Sweater by Ana D Designs. Leave a comment below and don't forget to add your Ravelry name.

Until next time Lovelies...stay calm, stay safe and take good care of yourselves!
💜 Jen

PS: the furballs made me laugh! Miss Nisha-Li completely unaware that she's sitting next to her doppelganger! 😹

And sulking in the pot plant because I'm sitting on HER cushion.

  2. A creative soul you are indeed, not just with yarn, but with words too. Your designs are just gorgeous, so intricate. Love the challenge. Love reading your blogs, almost like reading a novel. Extra bonus- the kitties - am also a cat lover.

    1. Thank you, Adri, I really enjoy making these squares... to be honest, besides crochet...it's my Cats who have kept me most grounded and sane through these challenging times. They've been staying close, and often sleep on top of me which I find very comforting! :D The dogs are more like demanding toddlers with no boundaries and up for a party nevermind the weather or atmosphere! Stay safe, and warm! Hugs and xx.

    2. Indeed, my cat loooves sleeping on me, but only when I'm lying down, never on my lap. I often wake up with him sleeping on my stomach or even perched on top of my side if I'm sleeping on my side. Not such fun when I'm asleep, but love it when I'm awake. Mommy and her boy time.
Very grateful for your creativity that inspires and provides an outlet for the need to create. Crochet has also definitely helped. Hope the weather down there in the Cape does not get to Look bad 😱, here in Pietermaritzburg it is a lovely sunny, but cold day, expecting bad weather tomorrow and Wed. Stay safe and warm too. 🤗😘

  16. Owwww that bad weather and flowers. Awful. Had a hundred year old Prunus Serrulata at the big farm.Lots of anticipation seeing the buds. First sunny day in spring all open and us oooooooooh underneath it. Next day spring storm and a pink pavement. Every darn year. I learned to love rain, gardens need rain. My rainbarrels filled up and all plants soaking up the precious water. Your square is a beauty, again, you nailed it again. Love it. So what there two or more Arcadia's. One can never have enough. I think Helen is a forgiving person.

    1. There are quite a few patterns called Arcadia so she'll have to fight a few others before she gets to me! Lol! Yes, even as I moan I know we desperately need to continue filling our dams for the coming dry summer. Our 2 x 1000lt rain barrels are topped to the brim... the overflow is running into the swimming pool! I feel worried and very sad for all the people living in informal settlements and those who have to go and work "out there" and have to face the traffic in this weather! On top of trying to stay safe from C-19.

  32. Oh my! I do hope that your garden is not damaged badly. What a gorgeous pattern! You have set up an addiction. My husband asks - what are you going to do with them. I love looking at them! My projects are lovingly strewn across our "princess couch". It's a vintage couch that our princess kitty adopted immediately upon it being set in our living room.
Hoping the sun shines upon you today!
